Why?

Rent a Living Christmas Tree has been started to help you celebrate an Eco - friendly Christmas season.

By renting a live, pot grown tree, which will continue to keep growing outside long after the Christmas period, you are not only saving a tree from being destroyed but you are helping the environment. After the holidays the tree will return to our nursery in the forest and keep producing oxygen, thus improving the air quality, and the wildlife will welcome it back and continue using the tree as habitat.

The pine, cedar, redwood and cypress we have chosen are tree varieties which grow well in our mild coastal climate. The Christmas tree tradition started in Europe where fir trees are abunant, however here the fir trees are missing the long cold winter months. We purchased a few fir trees as an experiment just to see how well they adapt.

All but our fir trees have all been grown in pots in California and their roots have not been disturbed. This will ensure that the trees have the best chance when they are planted in the ground once they get too big for the Christmas tree rental program. We are networking with the community to have those trees used in landscaping. You can also buy the tree for yourself, plant it in your yard and enhance your property.

We care for our trees by hand pruning them carefully to maintain a somewhat slender shape so as to fit better in your home. A regular watering and fertilization program keeps them healthy and in good condition. While all living trees will shed some needles, a big advantage of renting a potted live tree for the holidays, is that the needle drop is minimal if it is watered regularly. How?

Just click on “Order Your Tree” on this website. It’s so easy and fun to rent your tree on line. You can also browse the “Types of Trees” gallery and find out which would suit your needs best. Then select the type and size tree you want to rent or buy. Each tree is unique and may vary slightly from the photograph. Leave us a message if you have specific preferences or questions.

Cost: renting a live potted tree will cost about the same as a cut tree. The delivery to your home is free on the Monterey Peninsula. We deliver to the Santa Cruz and Santa Clara area for a small delivery charge. See the order section for areas we serve. This way you have not only the convenience of the tree being delivered and picked up, but you are helping to protect our resources and environment. We recommend that you use LED lights which are much more energy efficient.

Deposit: We add a deposit of $25.00 to the cost of your rented tree. When the tree comes back in good condition, that deposit will be refunded to you

Delivery: The tree will be delivered to your home. Please check all three delivery options, with your first, second and third preference. We will make every effort to deliver your tree to your home according to your wishes. Please fill out the address section carefully, there is a field to add additional directions if necessary.

Pick up: We will pick the trees up between the January 1st and January 10th. Please put the tree by your front door, and please be sure to remove all your decorations and lights.

 Purchase: Should you and your family fall in love with your tree and decide to purchase your tree, please notify us by December 31, and we will not come to pick it up. The amount of the deposit, along with your rental fee, will cover your purchase.
